HIFU
What is it?
HIFU, or High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, is a non-invasive treatment that uses concentrated ultrasound energy to heat targeted tissue beneath the skin. In cosmetic treatments, it’s commonly used to tighten and lift the face and neck, improve the jawline, reduce mild wrinkles, and stimulate collagen production without surgery or significant downtime. Results typically appear gradually over a few months and can last around one to two years. HIFU is also used medically to treat certain conditions, including some prostate cancers and uterine fibroids. While generally considered safe when performed by a qualified provider, temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or numbness can occur, with more serious complications being uncommon.
How does it work?
HIFU works by sending focused ultrasound waves beneath the surface of the skin to precise depths without cutting or significantly damaging the skin above. The ultrasound energy creates tiny areas of controlled heat in the deeper tissue, which triggers the body's natural healing response and stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin. As existing collagen contracts and new collagen develops, the skin can gradually become firmer, tighter, and more lifted. You may notice some initial tightening, but the full cosmetic effect usually develops over the following few months as collagen remodeling takes place.
